Let's be honest here, I was very excited when I got this question via TUMBLR. But I felt like I'd reply to it here, and expand. Personal style for me comes from these eight very basic and fundamental qualities,
1. I had to learn to be comfortable in my own skin, and I had to learn to love my body.
2. I buy magazines, not to tell me what to wear, but so I can pull ideas for only those things that I really love, and grab tips on how to dress my body type. Also, just because a magazine says a trend is over doesn't mean I necessarily throw out all those clothes, or that I stop wearing them. I don't let society tell me what I can and can't wear.
3. I rarely shop at the mall, if anything I'll make a list of absolute must-haves, and just search them out in my favorite shops, boutiques, and thrift stores.
4. I make a playlist, I plug in my headphones, and I shop. Music is a huge influence, and for me it's very inspiring.
5. I know what I love, and what I don't. For example, you will never see me wear THIS or THIS. That just isn't me, but it works and looks great on other people. But THIS on the other hand screams me, because well, it is.
6. I allow my style to morph, and I'm not afraid of change. In high school I always felt very dressed up, and I loved that, towards my senior year I started adding a more bohemian look to my wardrobe. And once I hit college I was very preppy, stripes and all. Now I wear things that are more of a retro/classy/grunge look, I wear what I ultimately feel the best in.
7. I really don't care for approval, nor to seek it out. Ultimately you are the only person you need to please, and I say if you love it, then wear it.
8. I let my clothing reflect myself as an artist.

  2. I love all of these tips. I completely agree! The most important thing is that you love your outfit and that it helps reflect your personality not hide it!
